The ride from Miami International Airport to South Beach is about 12 miles by road, and on an ordinary day it typically runs 20 to 35 minutes off-peak and 35 to 60 minutes in rush hour. Those are conservative typical ranges from our airport drive-time planner, not a quoted arrival time, and the gap between the two columns is the real story of this trip. The distance is short. The route is not always fast.
Why 12 miles can take an hour
Whichever way you come, the last stretch is the MacArthur Causeway. Once the crossing has started there is no second route off it, so a slow causeway backs up everything behind it. The planner makes the same point about this route: the drive time swings wider than the mileage would suggest, because Miami traffic moves on events as much as on the clock. A cruise-ship morning, an arena night, or a beach-weekend afternoon can move the same 12 miles from the bottom of the range to the top.
None of that changes what you should do about it. It just means the honest plan is built on the range, not on the best case.
A held ride instead of a found one
Landing at MIA leaves you three ways across the bay: the taxi line, the rideshare app, or a ride arranged before you took off. A pre-arranged airport transfer replaces the first two with a vehicle and driver held for you, planned around your flight and party size. You share your flight details when you book, your concierge plans the pickup around them, and a real person confirms the vehicle and the plan before you land. Nothing is confirmed automatically, which is exactly the point: someone has actually looked at your trip.
Once you are across the causeway, South Beach itself is covered on our Miami Beach chauffeur page, including the trips people pair with an arrival: dinner the first night, an evening back across to Brickell or Downtown, the return run to the airport at the end.
If you land at Fort Lauderdale instead
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International is the other real option, and it changes the math: about 28 miles to South Beach, typically 40 to 55 minutes off-peak and 60 to 90 in rush hour. The same causeway sits at the end of that trip too, after a long I-95 run. Cheaper flights sometimes land at FLL, and the planner lays both airports out side by side so you can decide with the whole trip in view rather than just the fare.
What to share when you book
Three things shape the plan: your flight details, how many are riding, and where in South Beach you are headed. Share them when you book and your concierge builds the pickup around your arrival. If your plans include more than the one ride, say so. A dinner booking, a return transfer, or an hourly block for the evening can be planned in the same conversation.
